The Final Chapter

I’ve been talking about our big move for close to a year and a half now, probably to the point where people are like, ok is this really ever going to happen, but let me tell you, it’s happening. We’re entering kind of the final chapter of this story. The construction at my in-law’s place is nearly done and they’re packing up and heading east soon. Shit is getting real at our house. We had a storage POD delivered and we’ve been starting to fill that up with our non-essentials. Our realtor came over the weekend and took measurements and discussed numbers with us. We have a loose timeline for listing.

There is a small part of me that feels a little nostalgic about the whole thing. We had really cleaned up before the realtor came over and with some of our excess stuff out in the POD, the house is feeling less like it’s closing in on us. I said to Nate the other day “you know, it’s not such a bad little house.” It will always be special because it was our first home. There is much I can say and probably will say about our house before we go. But honestly, it’s time. We truly have outgrown it. We could probably make it work if we had the time and energy to expand and remodel and honestly, if this opportunity to buy my in-laws place hadn’t presented itself, I think we may have started to seriously look at renovating. But it was a no-brainer that if we could make it work to buy their house, we would. We will still have an opportunity for renovating there as well, the basement is not finished, so we will be able to make that our own and we plan to do so as soon as we can after moving in.

So here we are. The next weeks are going to be a blur of packing and cleaning and probably throwing stuff out. It will be stressful but as I’ve been telling people, it’s a good kind of stressful. It’s productive and even a little cathartic feeling.  I’m sure there will be lots of feels as we also kind of go down memory lane a bit too. But it’s time to close the book here and start a new story. I’m pretty sure this next book is going to be just as amazing and exciting as the last. Bring it on.

  1. Change is scary and hard but always beneficial. You’ll later enjoy the greater space and opportunity to customize things to your preference. Yes, hang on to wonderful memories of your first home but embrace the future in your second. Good luck!
