Coffee Chat 12.11.19

Well it’s a good thing we do these coffee chats virtually because influenza has struck our house. Nate was taken down first and was kind enough to share it with me (even though I got my flu shot, wtf?). Thankfully Ollie has been spared so far. Wash your hands and stay home if you feel unwell, seriously. Anyway, I still want to do our monthly coffee chat because it takes more than a little flu to keep this gal completely down. I should be sipping on tea, but I’m still sipping on coffee because coffee is life. I can tell I’m starting to feel better because I can handle my coffee.

So what’s new in your world? Before the flu took over our lives, we were doing pretty good at diving into the holidays and enjoying the season. We took Ollie to see Santa at the Twin Cities Moms Collective Donuts with Santa event. He wrote a letter to Santa and asked him for a toy school bus that looks just like the one he rides from school. Thankfully Nate is good at searching the Internet and has managed to find something that will work so we can have Santa come through. I want Ollie to believe in the magic of Santa as long as he can. I volunteered at the event on Saturday for a bit too and one of the other moms was telling me her son is starting to ask questions about Santa being real and he’s only four years old. FOUR? I just want kids to be kids as long as they can. They have their whole lives to be adults.

Ollie is also going to be in the children’s program at our church on Christmas Eve this year. He will be a black sheep. He gets to be herded by a shepherd. It’s the cutest little program, I hope that this will be a yearly tradition for us. I’m hoping that this weekend after both Nate and I are more or less over this thing that we can maybe jump in the car and go look for Christmas lights. I love lights and there aren’t a ton of decorated houses around us this year, but I’m thinking we can find some if we drive around a bit. Other than that we have a low key weekend coming up so I think that will be good as we continue to recuperate.

One good thing about being down with the flu is the chance to catch up on Christmas movies and shows. I’ve watched more Christmas cooking competitions than I can count at this point and we’re well into the new season of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I’m also spending some time with a lovely Christmas book called My True Love Gave to Me. So, it could all be worse all things considered. I find the positives where I can!.

That’s about it from here. Next month’s coffee date will be hopefully back to normal and we can share how our Christmases went. I hope you are staying healthy so far in this cold and flu season!

  1. I read about your family having the flu and then today I started sniffling and feeling bad. Is it possible I got it from you guys? Is that what they mean by a computer virus? 🙂

  2. Hope you are back to your usual self soon. Flu is such a kill joy. The Christmas show sounds lovely! I hope you enjoy it. And, yes, get out and catch some Christmas lights. They’re so warmth inducing. I’m jealous of your Christmas movie catch-up. I’ve not watched one yet. I’ll have to get on that this weekend!

  3. That dang flu!! I hope you and Nate feel better soon and that Ollie doesn’t catch anything. Wow, a four year old asking if Santa is real or not? That’s too young!! Just stay innocent as long as you can!! I’m glad Nate could find the school bus Ollie asked Santa for; he’ll be thrilled. 🙂 I have so many Christmas movies and shows taped, so I need to get on that, though I have been watching some. I do love all the holiday baking shows. 🙂

  4. Hi there, I just found your blog. The flu sucks so bad 🙁 I haven’t had it for some time which I’m very thankful for. I remember one time I had it and had so much pain in my body that I felt I was going to die every time the Paracetamol wore off! I used to get free flu shots when I worked as a nurse but I’ve actually had the flu quite a few times although I’ve had the shot.
    Hope you get better soon!

  5. I’m so sorry to hear you guys have been taken down by the flu. I’ve been feeling pretty cruddy and am praying that’s not what it is. Donuts with Santa sounds like a lot of fun, but that’s probably more about the donuts. It’s crazy how mature kids are getting at younger ages. I don’t know if they are being exposed to more “adult” concepts earlier or what, but my four-year-old nephew can carry on conversations better than I remember being able to at that age. Looking at Christmas lights is one of my favorite things to do this time of year. My sister’s kids are probably going to be doing a holiday show at school too, so I might get to check that out. Hope Ollie does well in his program. Thanks for joining the coffee date this month, Beth. Hope you are feeling better soon and that we can meet up again next time! <3

  6. That’s adorable that Ollie is in the church program as a little black sheep. 🙂
Jeff and I are currently watching Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – isn’t she great? Lol and I, too, have been watching a TON of baking shows. Do you watch Nailed It?’ If you haven’t, DO! You’ll thank me later. Lol

    Love you xo

  7. I am so sorry you guys got sick, but it sounds like you already got a lot of Christmas things done! I’d love to see Ollie in the play as a little black sheep 🙂
