Itasca Recap 2019

Hello friends! Long time no blog! I’m back from the land of the Northwoods of Minnesota. We had a nice time staying in a cabin in Itasca State Park. We try to go every other summer or so and just relax, fish, boat, bike, see the Headwaters and just enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle of our normal day to day life. This year was no exception. I won’t bore you with a super long play by play, but I thought I’d share a few pictures from our little retreat.

This was the view from our front porch. It had lovely views of the sunset and you could just about see Lake Itasca through the trees. In the morning it was a great spot to sit and sip coffee!

We spent some time in some hammocks we borrowed from my in-laws. They were so comfortable, Ollie absolutely loved them. I loved it so much I bought one as soon as we got home and I plan on hanging it in the backyard at home this summer!

We took a little side trip up to Bemidji, which is about 40 minutes north of the park, and stopped at a flea market and of course had to go say hi to Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox!

On a cooler and rainier day we headed to a winery called Forestedge, which is a spot we discovered 13 years ago on our honeymoon. They focus a lot on fruit wines, but many of them are quite tasty and we brought a few bottles home with us.

Of course we spent some time at the world famous Headwaters of the Mississippi. I love this family picture of us by the sign even if there was a dude behind us who would not move for anything. I swear he was in that spot for twenty minutes.

We rented a boat (that was named McFloaty which I thought was hilarious) and tooled around the lake a bit. We also went on a pretty good bike ride one day too.

Most of all we enjoyed our time together in our cute little cabin in the woods. Ollie’s body decided to protest the end of our vacation by coming down with a nasty cold virus. We’re still fighting that off, but hopefully he’ll be on the mend soon. We’re not letting that overshadow the wonderful week we had otherwise!

I’m happy to be back home and back to normal routines. I’ll be catching up with all of you in blogland as soon as I can!

  1. I missed you like crazy my dear! I’m glad that you had a nice time on your vacation. That stinks that Ollie started getting that nasty of a cold, but at least it was at the end of the vacation!

  2. Looks like you had an amazing time and lol at McFloaty! Relaxing holidays in nature are the best – you arrive home feeling super refreshed. Sorry Ollie wasn’t feeling well – hope he is on the mend.

  3. Y’all look so happy!! Can you bottle up that happiness and send some my way, my friend? Looks like a fun, but relaxing trip. Love the hammock pic and Paul Bunyan and the ox – holy crap those are huge. Those made me laugh. 🙂
