January Favorites

When I can or when I remember, I’m going to try to do a monthly wrap up of favorites on the blog this year. Favorite things from the month or new things I’ve discovered. I’ve seen a few other blogs do this and I think it’s a nice way to capture memories or to remember new things you’ve found! Since today is the last day of the month, I thought it would be a good day to share! Here are my favorites from January!

Favorite new skin care item – Pixi Rose Toner. I bought it at Target after I saw Anne from In Residence recommend it. It’s good for people with sensitive skin as the rose water is soothing. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and soft. I don’t know that it’s helping my acne much, but it is making my skin overall feel better in this harsh winter air!

Favorite binge watch –  I talk about it a lot here, but we have now finished Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season two. If possible I think this season was even better than season one! I freaking love the episodes when they’re in the Catskills, totally reminded me of Dirty Dancing. I want Midge’s entire wardrobe. And I’m not spoiling, but anyone who has watched – can we talk about that ending?? Now to wait for season three.

Favorite date night meal –  Nate has a copycat recipe from an Italian restaurant that has now closed called Pasta Norccina.  It’s rigatoni noodles cooked in a cream sauce (with truffle oil!) and Italian sausage, garnished with parsley. It is SO good. We had it with a bottle of red wine we picked up from Northern Vineyards in Stillwater. Hands down, best meal of the month.

Favorite mail item – My Busy Mama Book Swap package! I did this swap a couple of times late last year too, via Bookstagram on Instagram. This month’s theme was “Cheap As Chips” – basically, how many books could we send our swap partner for about $5.00, no joke. My swap partner found five amazing books for me! A Jodi Picoult book I don’t think I’ve read before and another one I’ve heard a lot about – Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore. She also included a couple of books that just fit the genre I most prefer and I’m looking forward to reading them all! I’m staying out of the library for a bit, ha!

Favorite family outing – The Twin Cities Model Train Museum in St. Paul. Local moms, I cannot sing the praises of this place enough. Ollie is still enjoying it a ton at age 5 and I’m guessing he won’t grow out of his fascination anytime soon. They are constantly changing up their displays and doing fun new things. Right now they have an amazing Lego town and Lego trains. There is so much hands on fun, we easily spent over an hour there! I love seeing my boy light up so much when he’s there.

That’s what I have for this month! January is a cold, long kind of drab month at times, but we certainly made the most of it! What are some of your January Favorites?

  1. I love favorites posts! I got out of the habit of doing them, but maybe I should again… Anyway, my mouth is watering over here–that pasta sounds amazing. (Note to self, don’t read blogs at dinnertime, ha!) I also tried a Pixi product this month–I got the Glow Tonic and I really like that too.

  2. I do love these type of posts. I need to try and do them sometimes. How fun that you got five new books! Your swap partner is awesome. 😉 I hope you have a great February full of more favorite things!

  3. Oh I love that you picked up the “monthly favorites” blog idea… I love to see what others loved during the month!
I am super-intrigued by Marvelous Mrs Maisel… maybe I’ll give it a try.

  4. I keep hearing about the rose tonic from Pixi! I’m going to have to check it out. And that pasta sounds amazing. I love trying to make some of my favorite restaurant dishes. A book swap sounds like so much fun. Sounds like January was full for you!
