Thinking Out Loud – Word of the Year 2019

Today I’m linking up with Penny’s Passion for Thinking Out Loud. What am I thinking about today? My word of the year for 2019. For the last several years I have been choosing a word to focus on and help define my year, I find it’s easier to do than making resolutions. Past words have been: embrace, present, purpose and last year’s word was nourish.

I will be one hundred percent honest and have talked about this here already a bit, I struggled a bit with always living up to my nourish goals. Did you know it’s not easy to focus on yourself when you’re so used to taking care of others? In the latter half of the year I finally got there though. I feel like I have finally learned to put myself first and have worked hard to tend my garden without worrying what others gardens are doing. I feel nourished and that I’ve grown.

So, what is my word for 2019? You’d think after nourishing myself the word would be bloom. But I wasn’t crazy about that as a word. Through nourishing myself this last year I learned a lot about who I am and what makes me happy. I’ve learned what sets my soul on fire. I have found this light inside of me. And I want to share that light and be my unique unicorn self. I have chosen…shine.

I am starting the year in a place where I feel good about myself and my mental well being. Life is too short to sit in the darkness, so I’m choosing the light. And I’m not going to let anyone dim my light. If it’s too bright for them, they can put their blinders on. I saw a great quote from Thug Unicorn (what an awesome name btw) on Instagram that spoke volumes to me that I wanted to share:

I will be too sparkly and too bright. I will be MYSELF. And I will shine brightly. I have a few more quotes I found that are going to be my mantras for the year and I wanted to share those also.

I know that last one is a little crude, but I couldn’t help it. Anyway, I’m ready to shine and I’m doing it my way. It feels good. I have peace and I am happy and I have faith this is going to be a good year. Shine on my friends.

  1. Oh, Beth! This is PERFECT for you. I’m glad you went with this word, and I understand that our words can be bigger than us and sometimes hard to live up to. I had that feeling last year with the word I chose, but I think that can be a good thing! We learn when we step outside of our comfort zones and do things that challenge us.

I’ve never heard of Thug Unicorn and I will have to follow immediately, because BEST NAME EVER and that quote is magic. I hope you don’t ever let anyone dim your beautiful light, my sweet friend. You got this, and 2019 will be an incredible year <3 <3 <3

  2. No blinders needed, this is a show I am excited to see. Shine is the perfect word for you and I hope you shine like the sun! That last quote is awesome 🙂 Happy New Year Beth!!

  6. I don’t have a word for this year, I think my goal is really to survive. It feels like such an effort to get through but I didn’t think I’d make it the last two years but I did, so maybe this year will be a breeze!
