Coffee Chat 10.10.18

It’s time once again to sit down and have a coffee chat! This month I think we’re sitting down at a coffee shop with a fireplace so we can warm up while the rain is falling down outside while we sip our beverages. And as much as I dislike it because it is such a Minnesota thing, the rain would be our first topic of conversation. I’d tell you that I’m getting tired of rain and clouds and how much I’m missing the sun. I’d tell you about the joke my dad made that if he wanted to live in Seattle he’d move there. Seriously this weather is just depressing. But there isn’t much we can do about it I suppose!

Then I’d talk about how even though it’s been wet and rainy lately we’ve managed to have some Fall fun. This past weekend we managed to get to the apple orchard and while it was cloudy and cool, it was one of the days it didn’t rain. We had a great time, Ollie loved that we got to ride on a wagon pulled by a tractor to get to the trees for picking apples. And he loved picking the apples. We ended up with a very full bag when we were finished! They had a food truck so Nate and I grabbed some food from them and we convinced Ollie to try an apple cider donut and he loved it! Mom win! We’ve already made some applesauce with our apples and next I might make some muffins. I made an apple spice muffin last year and they were delicious, so I thought it might be fun to make it again.

I’m trying to not go overboard on the amount of sweets in the house though. It’s definitely hard at this time of year. But I’m starting to get fitness back into my life again. I actually felt a little embarrassed by how out of shape I was for the fitness test at work this year. I still earned my six days off, but it was a bit of a wake up call. The truth is, I’m almost 37, and I’ve accepted that this is my body. I eat reasonably well. But I could still try to be more active. I’m proud to say I’m in a second week of a good workout routine. Three days a week I’ve been doing either a ten minute tabata or a one mile walking video. I found my favorite workout gal from back in the day on YouTube and she has all sorts of new walking videos so it makes it pretty easy to do. Most of the workouts are around 15 minutes, so it’s also easy to fit it into my day at any time. Then in the evenings Nate and I have been doing some hand weights while we watch TV. It’s actually kind of fun and we encourage each other. So, I’m not out to lose a ton of weight here, but I am finding I have more energy and if I can just tone up what I’ve got I think that’s pretty darn good.

And now my mug is empty and I see the rain has let up, so I think it’s time to end our chat for this month. I’d give you a hug and tell you to pick our spot next time and thank you for listening to my babbles! And I’d remind you my birthday is next month with a wink and then you’d laugh and we’d head out to our cars and go on with our days.

  1. Happy early birthday. 😉

Sorry about all of the rain! It can make enjoying the season difficult because so much is outside. Oh gosh, I’d love to have an apple cider donut. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted one before. Glad Ollie liked his!

I have some light weights – I think they are five pounds – and I really need to start using them while watching TV or something. I’m trying to be better with exercise, etc. and I could use with toning up my arms! lol

  2. I’m so glad you got your extra 6 days – I think that is an awesome reward you got but well done for trying to be more active. We also have hand weights which I used to do during adverts or between sitcoms. This has reminded me to dig them out and continue 🙂

  3. Omg your birthday is coming up soon, my dear! That’s wxcitokg!! Are you guys doing anything to celebrate?

Awww, I love coffee talks. The rain is so depressing and I think it’s doibly so this time of year because the days are much shorter. Also I’m so glad that Ollie enjoyed his apple cider donut! We are going apple picking this weekend and I’m sooo excited to have them again 🙂

Hope you are having a lovely week, my sweet friend! Xo

  4. We’ve also had a rainy start to fall, so I’d be talking about that as well I’m sure. I think that is great that you are getting back into a fitness routine and making that a priority. It’s something I need to do and know that I SHOULD do, but I have not made it a priority. I just don’t know when to fit it in!! But obviously it’s important, so I should. Gah.

  5. Yes, I would love to have coffee by the fire. It’s not been cold here yet, but it has been very rainy. I am over it. Bring back my sunny fall weather! Apple spice muffins sound so good. I love anything with cozy spices in it. I need to start walking more too. As soon as the rain stops… I’m so glad you were able to join in this month’s coffee date, Beth! Hope to see you again next month. <3

  6. I loved our coffee chat. My coffee is lukewarm, but eh, it does the trick. I use to live in the Seattle area, it does rain quite a bit, but you seriously can’t beat the summer there. 🙂
Your fall fun sounds amazing. I love creating fall memories with my babies. Now that we’re back in Illinois we’re trying to do the things we did with them when they were little. Sadly, the little farm we went to during fall just closed down. So, since we had lukewarm coffee together, do you have the apple cider donuts?
    xo

  7. All that apple baking sounds amazing! And good on you for setting up an exercise routine. I used to keep up with zumba videos on YouTube but really got out of the habit this year. And if you’re having fun while keeping fit, that’s a great start!!

  8. So, you get 6 days off for passing a fitness test? You need to tell me more 🙂

I wish I could send you some sunshine… we have yet to get the first rain of fall (but October is usually the month, so I am hopeful! We need some rain!)
