My Favorite Hobbies

I’m linking up with Communikait again today for her September blogging challenge. The prompt is My Favorite Hobbies. I probably don’t make enough time for my hobbies, but I do have a few that I enjoy, so I thought I’d share more about them.

This is a newer hobby love of mine. I started taking some of those Paint Night classes at Cheers Pablo and realized that painting really relaxes me. I love the feeling of the brush on the canvas and I love creating various scenes. I also love adding my own creative touches here and there. When I realized how much I enjoyed it and how good it made me feel, Nate said I should set up my own studio at home. First I started with a table top easel and then as you saw in my What’s Up Weekend post last week I now have a bigger easel that can fold up for easy storage. I work pretty much only with acrylic paints, but my easel came with watercolors and oils as well so I may dabble with those at some point. I’m definitely not a professional artist, but I enjoy it and I think my stuff turns out pretty nice. And if it makes me happy that is what matters, right?

I also very much enjoy coloring and in recent years I’ve started adding more adult coloring books to my collection, though I do still love a good old fashioned kids book and some Crayola crayons. But with the adult books there are more complex patterns and mandalas that are pretty fun to color and also fairly relaxing. I use markers with those books and it’s been fun collecting those. It’s something mindless I can do when we’re watching TV and things like that.

I love to bake. I’m not terribly adventurous with my baking, but I love to bake cookies, cupcakes and pies. There is nothing like the wonderful smells produced in the kitchen from making goodies and it’s so fun to share with family and friends. Ollie has really started getting into to helping me bake too and it’s something fun we do together on the weekends a lot, especially in the winter.

Brewing Beer

It’s really Nate’s hobby, not mine, but I do help him come up with recipes and I’ll help on brew days a lot with stirring, adding ingrediants or even just keeping him company. However, Ollie helped make this most recent batch for our Oktoberfest more than I did, so I get the feeling my assistant role is starting to get a little bit phased out, ha! Still, I love that this is a hobby we’ve had for ten years now and I hope we’ll continue to have it for some time to come. And it’s always fun to enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Disc Golf

One of my favorite things to do with my two favorite boys. I love that this is something we’ve been able to do as a family from before Ollie could even walk. It’s been so fun watching him develop his own skills, that kid is getting an arm, let me tell you! I miss it when it’s winter and we can’t go. I’m hoping we’ll have more decent weather through October so we can keep playing a bit longer this year!

And finally, obviously, Blogging is a hobby. I love writing, I love sharing my story and I love having this digital scrapbook of my life. Having friends I’ve made follow along is icing on the cake. There have been times I’ve thought about throwing in the towel but I just can’t give it up. Blogging is kind of my life.

What are some of your hobbies?

  1. Glad blogging is one of your hobbies because I love reading Coffee Until Cocktails! Your paintings are amazing. I think you could turn that into a profitable hobby! And Disc Golf – I don’t have a clue what that is. I need to do some research. lol

  2. These are all such great hobbies! I love having hobbies and I can’t imagine not having one–they make me so happy! I also love blogging of course, and baking is a big one for me too. I’d put reading at the top of my list too.

  3. I love that you can bake and play disco golf with Ollie (and Nate). I think your paintings are awesome, and it’s great that you make them at home now. What do you do with them all? Do you keep them, or gift some? I love blogging too and it’s a hobby of mine. It can be stressful, but I can’t imagine quitting!

  4. I love all of your hobbies! I love that we share quite a few of them! Baking and coloring for sure! I love the painting as well (when I have done that). Great creative outlets for you my dear!

  5. Great hobbies! That painting is lovely and I’m glad you have a hobby that relaxes you (while you make cool art) 🙂
So glad to see blogging on your list. The way you say it is a digital scrapbook just sums it up perfectly!

  6. Love that you’re interested in so many different things. I have so many hobbies and interests, too. Beer brewing wouldn’t be one of them though 😉
Blogging is probably one of my favorite hobbies (besides running, knitting, crafting, reading, and baking). It’s such a cool way to connect with likeminded people (like you :)).
