Thinking Out Loud – Random Thoughts

It’s Thinking Out Loud Thursday with Penny’s Passion and today I’m just sharing some random thoughts. Sometimes we need a brain dump right? As Lucas in Empire Records says “Who knows where thoughts come from, they just appear!” So here’s a little bit of what’s on my mind today.

We are going to St. Louis in just over a week and my mind is on overdrive thinking about all that has to happen between now and then. Thankfully because we stay with Nate’s grandmother we have access to laundry and things like that, but when you have a fournado, you need to be prepared for anything. I need to start making some lists of what all we need to pack and have ready! If I start writing things down I think it will help.

I can’t believe the school year is just about over. This year flew by so fast. Ollie is going to do a couple of weeks of their summer program this year and also is going to go to a week of Vacation Bible School at our church, but beyond that he’s pretty pumped for summer break!

Speaking of time flying by –  how is it the last day of May? Seriously, where did May go? April seemed to kind of go by really slow, but I feel like May was a blink. I seriously hope the rest of the summer is not like this! I want to enjoy all of it as much as possible – even the hot days. If it’s hot, we’ll just be in water or something!

A FB friend posted that they are looking at developing the Baby-Sitters Club into a TV series and then asked what our favorite babysitter was back in the day. I LOVED those books hard core. I was always a Mary-Anne. Cat lover? Check. Steady boyfriend? Check. Shy? Check. I was reading an article recently about how the Baby-Sitters Club was ahead of it’s time in a way and had a feminist slant – this was a group of girls who successfully put together and run a business without any help from anyone. I never looked at it that way but it does have a good message in that sense!

I’m giving my closet and dresser a serious overhaul this weekend and I cannot wait. When it’s so jammed full that you can’t easily find things and when you can’t close your dresser drawers because they’re so full, it’s time to weed things out. It’s a good sign that I’m on top of my laundry, but it still means I have too many clothes!

So that’s what’s floating around in my head at the moment. I’ll start making some lists for my trip and I think that will help. I just can’t believe how fast it’s coming up!

  1. This year is just flying by so quickly! I cannot believe tomorrow is the 1st June!
The Babysitters Club was popular when I was younger. There were the books and they made a movie in the 90’s didn’t they?
Making lists is always a good idea – you’ll thank yourself later.

  2. I love the idea of a brain dump post! I get to learn so many random things about my friends that I wouldn’t otherwise get to read in other posts. This year is flying by and I wish it would slow down. I love a good closet purge. I just did one, but I have a few more things I think I can get rid of.

  3. That’s an interesting thought about The Babysitter’s Club. I used to read those books too, but for the life of me, I can’t think of specific girls. LOL Ooh I hope you have a great time in St. Louis. Packing is difficult sometimes because you don’t want to forget something you’ll have to end up buying. That’s great you’re not staying in a hotel though so you can do laundry, etc.

  4. Ooh so many things here that I’m so with you on. I also feel like May went way too fast and I don’t want the whole summer to fly by like that. I was a HUGE babysitter’s club fan too, and I totally wanted to be Claudia. I used to try to keep track of her outfits and dress like her, and I wanted to be an artist like her too. And oh man, I need a closet clean-out in the worst way.

  5. I am super excited for the summer and for school to be over and done with. Thank Jesus. What a crap show that was. We ran into his principal at the grocery store and she blabbed about sushi and I just wanted her to get rammed in the heels by some old lady with a shopping cart. Was that too much to ask?
The baby-sitters club was my jam. When ever they had a book fair or a scholastic book order form, I NEEDED the latest book. I would read it in a night. I was obsessed. And now I cannot think of any of their names. How terrible. But I did watch the remake of Gem on Netflix and I was not disappointed. I’m 37. Sigh. Pets dog. Eats dry cereal out of box. Crawls back under blankets.
