Thinking Out Loud – Heatwave
It’s Thinking out Loud Thursday with Penny’s Passion. Today I’m thinking about the heatwave we’re heading into this weekend. Our weather people are saying that this will be the hottest Memorial Day weekend since 2006. Huh. What was going on Memorial Day weekend of 2006? I feel like there was something…..
Oh yeah, I got married! It’s no joke that 2006 was a HOT weekend. I remember my wedding day was very hot and I remember two specific air conditioning related snafus. I have shared the story multiple times about the air conditioning quitting at the church during the service (it was on a timer) and the wedding coordinator click clacking in her heels to go upstairs and turn it back on. There was another air conditioning moment that day also – the air conditioning at our house quit too. While were gone all day. Mice chewed through the line basically disconnecting it from the house. You know what’s awesome when you’ve been on your feet all day at the biggest event of your life and you’re tired and want to come home and crash? Coming home to a sauna. It was amazing. Ha. There was no um, romantic time on our wedding night. We instead found the only two fans in the house and basically laid on top of our bed in t-shirts and shorts and tried to sleep. But then we escaped the next day to the Northwoods of Itasca where it was much cooler!
All sarcasm aside, while my wedding day was hot, I wouldn’t change a thing about that day. And with this weekend looking to be much like it was 12 years ago, I’m going with the same attitude I had on my wedding day – it will be what it will be, might as well embrace it. We are celebrating our anniversary on Saturday evening and I’m pretty sure the restaurant will be air conditioned. The rest of the weekend we’ll do lots of things to keep cool, get out the sprinkler and the water table, make sure we have lots of cold beer, I mean water, stuff like that. And honestly…don’t hit me now…I’m kind of excited about the heat. Whoa. WHOA. What did I just say? I don’t know what it was about this winter but it was miserable. I mean we had snow on the ground into April. And lately I have really, really hated being cold. So right now heat kind of sounds good. I’m sure I’ll be complaining soon enough. But right now I say bring it. *Ducks to avoid things thrown at me*
I mean, I managed to survive the heat on the most important day of my life and still looked darn good doing it, so I think I can survive it now!
