What's Up Weekend

What’s Up Weekend 1.5.18

Hello and welcome to the first What’s up Weekend of 2018! If you’re new around here, this is a weekly link up I host with my fellow admins from The Peaceful Posse Facebook group, Charlotte and Lindsay. It’s a way to inject some positivity at the end of the week and look back at the things you were grateful for or have made you happy. I love ending my week with a smile! So let’s dive in.

(1) Twinning with my mini-me. He might not understand what the sweatshirt is all about, but he loves matching mama!

(2) Selling stuff to Once Upon a Child and Style Encore. Right after Christmas I had the bug to go through mine and Ollie’s clothes and I’m glad I did, we made a nice little amount of money!

(3) A “bank error in my favor” as Nate called it. He went to get us coffee at Caribou on New Year’s Day and they messed up the order a little bit, but let us keep the coffee that wasn’t quite right. So I was double fisting it with my coffee. And messy hair don’t care.

(4) The Mother by Brandi Carlile. I have been a Brandi fan forever, but just found this amazingly sweet video of a new song of hers that she wrote for her daughter and oh stab my momma heart. It’s simply beautiful.

(5) A delicious date night meal the other night. Nate made one of our favorites, pasta a la norcina, and it was just the perfect meal for a very cold winter night!

(6) The Orville. I am so not a sci-fi type girl and I was never into Star Trek or any show like that, but we’ve been watching The Orville and I really enjoy it. Seth McFarlane has made an average joe sci-fi show. There’s just enough nerdy stuff to keep someone like Nate interested, but there’s enough humor and even silly relationship type stuff to keep me interested.

(7) I finally got a donut today! I have been missing out on donut Fridays because of covering Public Works for the last several Fridays. I was pretty darn happy to have one today!

(8) Trying out a new brewery last Saturday. It was crazy busy though, so I don’t know that we’ll be back soon, but Venn Brewing in Minneapolis is a pretty neat spot. And they have a fox in their logo and you know how I feel about foxes! I had to get a shirt and a glass.

(9) Routine. I have to admit while I love the holidays and time off and all that jazz, there’s something about being back into normal routines that feels pretty good.

(10) This community. SO MUCH LOVE for all of you and your support of my new blog launch this week. I appreciate your kind words and positive feedback so much! Thank you for sticking with me in the transition. I can’t wait to grow this space even more. Thank you, thank you, all the heart eyes for all of you.

And that’s where we’re at! This weekend Nate and I are doing our annual “adulting” retreat where we talk about money, goals for the year and all that jazz. But I look forward to it because we have great conversations and we really connect with each other. And we get a couple of nice kid free meals which is always a good thing too. I’ll share more about it next week! I hope you all have a great weekend! Feel free to link up with us below or check out the other posts!

  1. I’m really curious about this adulting retreat. Is it an actual thing you go to or do you say “Saturday. 2pm. Living Room. Be there or be square.” Either way, I think it’s a great idea, and something I’d love to implement here, too. I’ve also been making some $$ in some Facebook groups selling some stuff we just have lying around and clothes that are barely worn/used. It’s a great source of extra income (and it all gets filed away in a vacation fund). 🙂

I hear you–I love routine. I think after the past few weeks of eating and staying out late and just being all over the place, it’s good to return to work as usual.

Also I looooove Brandi Carlisle! She’s the best. She played in our town a few years ago and we saw her and she put on a terrific show <3 I'm going to have to listen to that song.

I love your new site and sending you all the donuts! XOXO and stay warm, my sweet!

  2. Love that photo of you and Ollie! And yay for free coffee, love when something like this happens 😉

“Adulting retreat”… that sounds awesome! J and I talk about goals/finances all the time, but we don’t make it a “retreat”, but now I think we should 🙂

  3. Oh I’ll be curious to hear about your adulting retreat too! What a fab idea! Yay for getting free coffee – and mmm….donuts. I’ve so been craving one but I’m TRYING to be good with what I eat. haha

  4. I love Brandi Carlile! I’ve seen her play a few times and she’s just great. I haven’t heard the song she wrote for her daughter but I’ll be sure to give it a listen!

Bonus coffee for the win! That happens to my husband sometimes. He loves coffee and if a coffeeshop messes up someone’s order he always volunteers to drink it!

Have a great adulting retreat! Can’t wait to hear about it!

  5. The Orville, eh? We may have to look into it. Nate sounds very “Scott” and you sound very me, so we have to like it, right? What network/service has it?

Your donut is making me very jealous. I want donuts tomorrow but my favourite donut-ery (which has vegan donuts making them safe for M, not that I’ve ever given her a donut but there are always crumbs she steals) always closes the first two weeks of the new year (probably because everyone still has their New Years resolutions in mind :p). Alas, for me it’s Oh Donuts or nothin’ for this mama.

  6. That’s pretty cool that you do an adulting retreat. I could use a kid free weekend…even if it means talking finances 😉 I just sent a huge bag into Thred Up, and I think I’m going to order another right away. Feels so good to get rid of stuff! Have a great weekend!

  7. I totally love the idea of your annual “adulting” retreat with your husband. We may have to start doing something like that every year. I’m so with you on routine… as much as I loved the holidays I do so much better when I’m on a routine. Also, that pasta looks DELICIOUS. Drooling over here 🙂

  8. That adulting retreat sounds like such an amazing idea. Look forward to hearing more about it next week.
That pasta looks so delicious – must have been extra tasty in the cold weather.
I loved “The Story” by Brandi Carlile (must have listened to hundreds of times lol) so I need to check out this new song.

  9. Ollie’s shirt is the bomb! I had a T-shirt that I didn’t understand when I was little … it had the Cracker Jack kid and his dog on it, but it said “Cracker Jerk”! I only discovered this years later.

Even more priceless than that awesome shirt (did they have a men’s XL? Asking for a friend) is his gaze at you when you were two-fisting your coffee! Hey, that’s a proud moment. We had a mixup and awesome customer service at Bojangles once. The result: We left full, happy, and with a ton of food to take home.

Finally, it’s so great to be back here. Love what you’ve done with the place. Amid the chaos that is finding a job and still living a life, my writing/reading has taken a hit. Can’t wait to be back here on the regular, Beth. I appreciate your words and your friendship.

  10. HEY sweetie! 🙂
Your posts always make me hungry, particularly for donuts. Bring me alllll the donuts, I haven’t had any in awhile. I’m been wanting to try out some shops downtown for some fancy ones but haven’t made the time to do so. Probably for a good reason. Lol!
Love your twinning pictures with Ollie. Always
Your short hair is kinda making me want to cut mine. Hmmm I sense change coming soon…. 🙂

I hope you’re having a great week love. xoxox!
