Tuesday Topics – Four Ways to Treat Yourself

Happy Halloween! It’s also Tuesday, which means it’s time for Tuesday Topics. Our host for Tuesday Topics, Jenn from Quirky Pickings, is taking some time off from blogging for the foreseeable future, but since I have all the topics for this round I’m going to go ahead and finish anyway because I think it’s kind of fun. Maybe I’ll pick it up where she left off when this round is done! Anyway, today’s topic is a good one – four ways to treat yourself.

I’m going to be honest here. Moms, I’m looking at you specifically. We’re terrible at self care. We take care of everyone else because it’s our job, but we sometimes forget about ourselves. I’m guilty of that, I’ll admit it loud and proud. I’ve been taking steps for more self care though and here are some things I do to treat myself.

(1) I get my hair cut and colored at a salon. I used to cheap out on my haircuts, but was finding myself not happy. I met a friend of a friend who is a stylist and started seeing her and she ended up opening her own salon. I find it’s worth it to me to spend a little more money on a haircut and I go have it colored about every two months. The time at the salon is my me time. And the results make me look and feel good. It’s worth it.

(2) I paint my fingernails once a week. I save a little money by not going out for a manicure, though I will treat myself to one every few months. But once a week, usually on Sunday nights when Ollie has gone to bed, I set myself up at home and do a little manicure for myself. It makes me feel good to start the upcoming week with a little fresh color on my nails.

(3) I go thrifting. If I have the shopping bug I’ll go wander the thrift store. Sometimes going in without something specific in mind is the best, that is typically when I’ll find things that my closet can’t live without!

(4) I plan a girls day/night with friends. I love my boys, but sometimes I just need to get out and talk to well, other women. So I meet up with Jen for a coffee or a beer. My sister-in-law and I have also been trying to do a monthly date for just us. I go to choir twice a month with my mom. I find time for my favorite ladies and they help keep me grounded. It’s one of my favorite ways to treat myself!

These might seem like really simple things, but they really do make a world of difference in my well being. What are some ways you treat yourself?

  1. I’ve been feeling so drained lately, so this is just what I needed to read. I need to make time for some me-time and I like the idea of a weekly “manicure date” post bedtime 🙂 I think I’d be so happy seeing freshly painted nails each week too!

  2. I get my hair cut once a month and almost hope my stylist is running a little late because it gives me time to read a few magazines I don’t get at home. Love that time just to relax a minute!

  3. I love how easy these are – I’m always so bad at treating myself. Normally, I end up just giving myself some time to sit with a cup of tea in the morning without working. That feels like a splurge. And by the way, I love your hair!!

  4. I love this approach. I’m not one to ‘spoil’ myself, but now I’m jumping back into business I am overhauling my ‘look’ and I am so glad I have the energy for it. It’s definitely worth spending the time with a trusted stylist. I sat down a few days ago with a friend who I haven’t seen in 20 years and is a makeup artist and we nutted things out. Having a few boundaries to work with – I stopped in at an Op Shop (Thrift store here in Australia) and came out with a dress and a top that I probably wouldn’t have worn before but they are perfect for what I need for work! YAY!
    I’ll be adding nails to my weekly schedule too 🙂
