Currently in July

Greetings one and all! I am just off of a lovely four day weekend and am trying to get back into the swing of things in the work week. It does not help that I have the early shift at work today, but the good news is that Nate’s work trip was postponed a week, so I’m not living the single mom life quite yet! Anyway, since it’s also already July (what???) it’s also time for Currently with Anne of In Residence and her guest host Stephanie from Wife, Mommy, Me. So, here’s a look at some current happenings as we head into this second month of summer.

Currently I Am

Documenting – Summer Fun! I took Ollie on a fun Ollie/Mommy date day on Monday since I had the day off and Nate did not. I took pictures every place we went. It’s important to me to make lots of fun memories for him and to be able to have the pictures to look back on.

Accomplishing – We are finally just about done cleaning out our laundry room. I took this on as a task early this year and finished it this week with arranging to have a number of non-working small appliances picked up for recycling. My goal this year is to reduce our clutter as much as possible and this was a huge step in that direction!

Enjoying – The second season of Master of None on Netflix. I know a lot of people felt it fizzled after the first couple of episodes, but I’ve actually really been enjoying it. It might help that we’re taking our time binging it instead of going through super fast. I think I’d be a little fatigued if I watched it all super close together.

Reading – Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple. After seeing it on both Shea and Cara’s book review lists I decided I needed to give it a go. Luckily my library had a copy of it available. It’s pretty good so far.

Spending – I’m working on not spending money since I just bought that huge thrift haul and I want to start planning for some upcoming trips, so instead of spending money, I am spending TIME this month. Time with family and time with friends. Worth every penny in my opinion!

And that’s it! Some people are declaring summer half over with the July 4th holiday already passed, but I refuse to look at it that way. We have all of July and August to go and so much summer fun to have yet! The weather seems to finally have figured out what the calendar says too, it’s steamy out there!

  1. Sounds like summer is in full swing!! Glad it was a good four day weekend!! We’re headed to the beach so I’m hoping to do some reading!!!

  2. A no-spending month sounds like a good idea… maybe I’ll try that in August 😉 Hope you had a nice holiday weekend.

  3. Yay for getting the cleaning accomplished. It always sounds and feels like a huge chore, but then the feeling you get afterwards at looking at your clean room, it’s the best. 🙂

  4. Spending time… YES. And summer is the time to do it! Hope you like Today Will Be Different in the end – I really enjoyed it for the mom perspective.

  5. Exactly! Summer has two more months. We’re not even halfway through it yet. Don’t wish it away too fast. I love planning future things to do – I’d rather spend more money on experiences than actual items most of the time. 🙂

  6. I love the idea of mom son dates! It’s so great for the kids. Thank you for being a great mom. :)Way to go in cleaning the laundry room. That’s what my summer is all about- cleaning and organizing.

  7. I always feel like July 4 is the halfway point of summer. I work at a college, and things start getting crazy around mid-August, but I’m trying to focus on the few weeks between now and then! My birthday is mid-July also, so that definitely helps with the “oh no, summer is almost over” blues!

  8. Ooh I’ll be curious to hear what you think about Today Will Be Different. A mommy + Ollie date sounds fun! Jona’s birthday is next month and I think I’m going to do the same thing. I’d like for Aaron to be able to come too, but that’s right at the beginning of the school year for him, maybe even the first day of school!
