Currently in May

Time for my favorite link up of the month – Currently with Anne of In Residence and her co-host this month Nancy of NY Foodie Family. Currently I’m in a bit of a daze as it’s my last day of work before vacation and we have SO MUCH TO DO at home yet, but there are a few other current happenings besides my madhouse, so here they are!

Currently I Am:

Baking – Nada. Zip. Zilch. My oven has really not been used in several months for baking. And why would I want to bake when I can just keep eating my favorite raw cookie dough out of the jar? That’s the best part of baking anyway right? I do hope to get back to some baking soon, but then again with summer coming, I’m guessing my baking may be on hold until fall.

Listening to – I was listening to local station the Current at work the other day as I often do (no commericals and great variety) and they had a live in studio session with a group called Hurray for the Riff Raff. I really loved their vibe and want to check out more of their music. It’s kind of acoustic and lovely.

Loving – My Fidget Box. Maybe you’ve seen or heard of these, they’re being used with kids who have ADD or trouble sitting still. Or they’re great for people like me who use their nervous energy to do things like pick at the skin around their fingers (yep, it’s gross. I’m Beth. I’m disgusting.) Anyway, Nate found this for me at one of our local hobby shops so I’ve been fiddling with it when we watch TV at night and it’s keeping me from going after my fingers, so I think it’s a good thing!

Planting – Our tomatoes have already taken off thanks to our indoor basement greenhouse. They’ll be ready to head outside as soon as we get back from our trip I think. We’re also planting carrots, radishes, peppers and onions this year. We opted out of our CSA, so we’re doing our best to get some of our veggies from our own backyard this year and will supplement with the Farmer’s Market as needed.

Remembering – It’s been seven years this month since my sweet grandmother passed away. I’m thankful that between us, Nate and I still have one living grandparent, his Grandma Lil, whom we’ll get to see in Missouri this weekend. But I still miss my grandma and think of her all the time. She would have absolutely adored Ollie. I’m pretty sure she’s smiling down on us all the time though!

And there you go! It’s a little bit of a busy month, after our travels we have Mother’s Day to celebrate and our anniversary at the end of the month. But spring is springing and it is also one of my favorite months of the year, so I intend to enjoy every moment, even the busy ones!

Be sure to check out Anne and Nancy’s blogs for more Currently posts or to add your own!

  1. I’ve seen that before, but haven’t tried the cookie dough in the jar. It’s funny – I actually have butter sitting out so I can make some cookies today. I’ve seen those fidget cubes and have wondered about them. I wonder if that would be good for my nervous energy too (maybe Steve as well). I can’t believe it’s been 7 years since our grandma’s have passed away. I was thinking of my grandma last month when it was the anniversary of her passing.

  2. I would love to grow some of our own veg, we have a green house so I need to look into what we could grow. Have a great holiday 😊

  3. Um, yes please to the cookie dough! Who needs cookies when you have that. And I’m jealous of your head start on the tomatoes! Luckily I live two blocks away from our farmer’s market 🙂

  4. I would love to learn how to garden and grown my own fruits and vegetables. Cookie dough is the best. I hope you have a great vacation.

  5. I hope it’s not too late to plant a few things in my garden towards the end of May… I love growing (some of) my own food!

  6. My parents just planted a couple gardens worth of kale and I’m so excited! And yes about the baking! I haven’t had time lately, so I was thinking, “Maybe once school is over.” But then it’ll be summer and I won’t want to turn the oven on. Oh well. 🙂

  7. I really need to try cookie dough in a jar–I actually just suggested a place to visit in NYC with my bf’s sister when she’s in town called “do,” it’s literally a cookie dough place with toppings you can customize. Amazing, right??

I wish I had a garden here, I’m sure I could start one in our backyard but some of our neighbors are weird lol. And I love farmers markets!! Xoxo

    1. Oh my gosh, I think we’re getting a food truck with cookie dough like that here! I can’t wait for it to open!!

  8. That packaged cookie dough is dangerous! Because I agree, it’s one of the best parts of baking! How I used to eat raw cookie dough but my kids have never had the opportunity since I’m so afraid of salmonella!! All my kids talk about are fidget spinners. As a former special ed teacher I see the benefits of the boxes and spinners. Somehow it’s turned into another fad. I love fresh grown tomatoes! Good luck with the rest of your veggie growing! Thanks for linking up!

    1. The jar cookie dough is seriously delicious too, I didn’t think it would be, but I can’t get enough of it! The plain and the peanut butter are both super tasty!

  9. Sounds like you have a fun month ahead of you. I love the month of May as well, and there is quite a bit happening, but it should be mostly good things. 🙂 I’ve seen those fidget things online- I’m glad it’s working well for you. I tend to pick my nails a lot too so maybe I should look into one, especially when I watch TV.

  10. Fidget box! I want to get Scott one. Though I hear fidget spinners are all the rage in the schools. I wonder if they would keep me off my phone while watching tv (I say as I type this while watching TV)

  11. I love that you are planting your own produce! I think home grown always tastes so much better than anything you can buy at the supermarket!

  12. What is this cookie dough in a jar you speak of??!! LOL Im gonna need some of that. My MILs oven broke and she didn’t replace it for about a year. I used mine every day. But I haven’t baked any sweets in a while. Hmmm. I should. I need to get my hibiscus and cactus planted. Someday I will have some veggies going too!

  13. Almost vacation, so exciting! Please share more about this cookie dough… I’m drooling over here! My husband has a fidget spinner thing–I made fun of him (lovingly) at first but now I’m seeing them everywhere!
