Bye, Summer

Yes, yes, I know, the Autumnal Equinox is not until September 23 and therefore we have weeks left to enjoy “summer”. But as far as I am concerned, September = FALL. It was not a bad summer by any stretch of the imagination. But I’m kind of ready to bid it adieu. It’s been wet and muggy and BUGGY. Those skeeters have been nastier this year than I remember them being for quite some time. Anyway, before I say Bye, Felicia to this summer, I thought I’d kind of list some of the highlights of the summer of 16.

Soundtrack of Summer – Goo Goo Dolls’ Boxes. I picked this album up after the concert at the end of July and it has been on repeat in my car ever since.  It was not well received by critics, some saying it’s almost like a bad Christian album because many songs are kind of “uplifting”, but I think it’s good and even has some sounds reminiscent of their early 90s days. And you know what, even if it is a bit spiritual feeling at times, lead singer Johnny Rzeneck recently entered sobriety, so he’s writing what he feels and what he knows right now.

Best personal moment of summer – Crossing the finish line at my triathlon. Hands down.

Best family moment of summer – Would it be too mom of me to say when Ollie peed in the potty for the first time? Ha!  Ok, how about the Paw Patrol Saints Game? I honestly had so much fun with my boys that night and Ollie loved every moment. A close second would be the night we took him mini-golfing early on this summer. He seriously loved it and still talks about it.

Best restaurant we ate at this summer – Pimento.  It was so awesome finding a place we can enjoy Jamaican style cuisine, I only wish it was closer to home!

Best event of summer – I think I’ll go with All Pints North here.  I loved the Surly Open and Crayfest as well, but at All Pints North I got to meet Brian Oake and enjoy the sites of one of my favorite places in Minnesota, so I think that wins.

Favorite Movie of summer – I only saw one movie in the actual theater, which is more than I think I could say last summer. But anyway, I really enjoyed Bad Moms, again, it wasn’t loved by critics, but I loved it and laughed a lot.

Favorite Activity from Summer – I did a lot of fun things besides the triathlon (which was fun in the end!) like Soul Pose yoga and the pint glass class, but my favorite was probably the Color Run. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again.

Beyond those things we definitely got out to eat a lot, had a few bonfires, did a little bit of swimming, played lots of disc golf and Nate did a bunch of beer brewing. There are a few things we didn’t do this summer that would have been fun, but maybe we’ll still get to some of it yet this Fall, you never know. I have no regrets. I am definitely all eyes forward on Fall though, bring it on. I’m ready for apples, sweaters, leaves changing, and hopefully no more bugs! But no pumpkin spice latte for me please, instead give me a pumpkin spice beer.

Are you ready to say farewell to summer? Or are you clinging to every last sweaty, buggy day?

  1. I love this post Beth–such a fun way to say goodbye to summer! I’m ready for fall too–summer has been really hot, muggy, and buggy here too so I’m not sad to see it go (especially pregnant, ha!). But this is such a great way to kind of thank the season before you move on (I know that sounds cheesy but that’s what it made me think). So many fun memories. And this mom is jealous… potty training was not nearly as successful over here. Grrr.

  2. Wow! You had a great summer! And I do not think it is “too mom” of anyone to celebrate a potty victory! It is so amazing when you no longer have to deal with diapers! I still think you are truly amazing for doing a triathlon! So inspiring!

  3. What a great recap of summer! I don’t know if I really have these moments, it wasn’t my favorite summer this year. But hopefully fall will be better, because it is my favorite season.

  4. No, I’m not saying goodbye to summer yet. Even if I am wearing jeans and a long sleeved shirt today. No No No!

Ok, I’m also in denial that it’s September and I still haven’t spring cleaned my house. I have the dirtiest cobwebs on my windows, and that second baby will arrive in just over 2 1/2 months.

Nope, I’m going to hang onto summer for as long as I can!

  5. You did have a good summer and I’m still incredibly impressed by your completing a triathlon–and still love that you crossed the line with Ollie.
