Mother’s Day 2016

It’s kind of funny. In a way, this was my 4th official Mother’s Day.  My first Mother’s Day I was pregnant and that was the day we chose to tell our families we would be having Ollie that following December. This was my third Mother’s Day with Ollie on this side.  And it was a good day.

In the morning we got up (a little too early if you ask me, Ollie didn’t let mama sleep in) and met our families for brunch at a restaurant called The Copper Hen in Minneapolis. I had been there once for dinner with some blog friends a couple of years ago, but had never had brunch there before.  It was SO good. Bottomless mimosas, cinnamon rolls as big as your head, bloody marys that come with a mini cupcake, and countless other delicious goodies.  It was a really wonderful meal and we were stuffed when we left.  Nate let me pick out a dessert to take home too, we brought this rocky road mason jar cupcake thing that I don’t even know if I could accurately describe any other way, it was so good.

On the way home we stopped at Home Depot to pick out my present – Nate and Ollie planted flowers for me to have in the front of our house.  I love how they turned out, they’re so pretty.  Nate did most of the work of course.  Ollie just most got himself really wet with water from the hose.

After the planting was finished, Ollie took a good nap and Nate and I just mostly sat outside and enjoyed an unbelievably beautiful day.  We were going to just grill some burgers for dinner, but then Nate said “you know what, it’s Mother’s Day, we can go out somewhere if you like.” So we talked about it and decided on Cossettas in St. Paul and pretty much headed over there as soon as Ollie got up from his nap.  It was a good choice all around, Ollie pretty much agreed with us.

After dinner we got home and Ollie played for a bit and melted my heart when he came over to where I was sitting on the couch and said “lay on mom.” He showered me with lots of hugs and cuddles yesterday. I think he only had one true meltdown all day – I’ll take it! It was a really nice day over all.  I am a very lucky mom and wife!

I hope all other moms also had a nice Mother’s Day!  And I hope those who are missing their moms or children or wish that they could be moms were able to find some peace yesterday as well.  I know it can be a very conflicting day in some ways.  On we go into the rest of May!

  1. Glad to hear you had a lovely Mother’s Day! Ours was grey and rainy and I was in a mood all day. But any day that is centered around spending time with the kids is a good one right? I love Ollie’s messy little face! LOL

  2. That sounds like a wonderful Mother’s Day! And now my mouth is watering over that brunch… it sounds so good right now! I love your new flowers too, that’s something we really need to get for our front yard!

  3. I love the flowers! I’m still trying to find a balance between making sure our moms get attention (because omg, they deserve so much more than we’ve given them all these years!) and letting people pay attention to me. Last year was all me, this year was too little me. When I get to 4 years, maybe I’ll have figured it out? Glad you got snuggles and kisses and time with family!
