Stepping up my Reading Game
I have talked multiple times already this year that one of my goals for 2016 is to read more. I used to be an avid reader – and then I became a mom. But really, that’s a bad excuse. My kid is good, he goes to bed at a reasonable time and I have time to myself in the evenings, so I really shouldn’t be using that as an excuse. The bigger problem is laziness. After Ollie goes to bed, Nate and I usually settle into the basement with some TV shows and while there is nothing wrong with zoning out to TV, I simply need to make an effort to turn it off a little earlier and start reading before bed again.
I mentioned in a post last month that I saw a really cool reading challenge on my friend Cara’s blog. She found it on the blog Modern Mrs. Darcy. I decided it seemed like a really do-able reading challenge for 2016, so I’ve decided to give a try. Here is the list:
So I realize I’m already a month into the year and am just now starting this challenge, but I’m trying to wrap up my current book and then am going to dive in. I’m not necessarily going to do this list in order, but I think it’s manageable! The librarian one will be easy – my mother-in-law is a librarian so I’m sure I can get a good recommendation from her. I think the first book I will conquer on the list will be the book you previously abandoned. I have at least three books I have tried and given up on sitting on my nightstand, so I think I’ll choose one of those, most likely Insurgent. I would like to to see the movie, but feel I should finish the book first, so there’s a good reason to do it!
I’ll track my progress here on the blog, I feel it’s the best way to keep me accountable! I hope to finish two books this month to keep me on track for a book a month. So here we go! If you have any suggestions for some of the items on this list, I’d love to hear them!
