Red, Red Wine
I gave myself a little bit of an early Christmas present – I think sometimes we need to treat ourselves, so I did in the form of a color change in my hair. I used to dye my own hair red all the time when I was in college and in the days leading up to my wedding. Then after the wedding, I cut my hair shorter and stopped doing the red dye as much. I ended up doing blonde foils once somewhere in there, but for the most part have been au natural for the better part of the last nine years. While there is nothing wrong with my natural color sometimes you just feel like a change.
My sweet stylist is very good at what she does. We have actually been talking about color for the last couple of haircut visits I’ve had. My salon has some really great dyes and she said the reds are some of the best she’s seen. The best part too is that they don’t use ammonia or other harsh chemicals, they’re made of natural materials.
On Friday after work I headed to my salon and we looked through the color book a bit. We decided to do an all over copper red with some dark brown foils thrown in to help kind of add volume and break it up a bit. I sat with the dyes on my hair for probably a half hour to 45 minutes while she cut the hair of a friend of mine’s mom. Then we rinsed it out and right away I was giddy, the color was so rich and beautiful and we hadn’t even dried my hair yet! She did my cut and then dried it and I was still super happy with the results.
I don’t know how long I’ll stay a redhead this time, but I think I’m going to stick with this for a while! 2015 has been the year of change it seems, so this was kind of a good way to close it out I thought! I’m pretty close on the cut I’m trying to accomplish too, I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I started Project Hair Grow – you’ll hear more about that next month for sure!
