Apple Orchard Trip 2015
One of my favorite fall traditions is going to an apple orchard. There’s one I loved going to as a child (Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear for you locals) but as an adult I discovered Aamodt’s Apple Orchard in Stillwater, MN and Nate and I have enjoyed going there now for a few years as well and it’s a great place to bring Ollie – you can pick your own apples, there are tons of kids activities and they have winery for mom and dad. You kind of can’t beat that! On Saturday the weather was sunny and perfect after several rainy, yuck days, so we decided that it would be a great day to go out there and let Ollie burn off some pent up energy! Picture heavy post to follow!
He didn’t like the idea of standing still against this sign so we could measure how tall he is. Maybe next year he’ll cooperate! (Can you believe he’s nearly at the 3′ mark? What??)
He loved picking the apples! The trees are nice and low to the ground and he had no problem stepping up and getting right into them. We told him it was like picking tomatoes and he got the hang of it right away. He also loved putting the apples in the bag.
We decided to give the apple train a try this year. He said he wanted to ride the train, but once he and I got on he seemed a little concerned we were leaving daddy behind. I think next year he’ll be all over this though!
The goats are hilarious. These two were super social, though I’m guessing they wanted all the kettle corn people were walking around with. I don’t doubt they have some shared with them, the only sign near their pen just says “Please don’t throw apples at goats.”
I had to get the next picture of course, Ollie almost understood the concept! He really just wanted to play peek a boo with daddy though!
After we had our fill of picking apples and wandering around we sat down with some wine for mom and dad, a hot dog for Ollie and an apple brat for Nate and I as well and we all shared some delicious fruit salsa and kettle corn. It was definitely busy – if you go, I suggest trying to get their right when they open, we managed to get some rockstar parking that way, by the time we left they were parking people easily two to four blocks away. It’s a great place to spend a nice fall day, I’m already looking forward to next year and seeing Ollie grow into having even more fun with the kids activities!
What’s your favorite fall activity?
