Finally!!
I’ve been writing vague posts all summer about bridges to cross and paths to decide on which to follow and all these crazy “life is changing” type things, but I haven’t really been able to say what’s been going on and I’m sure it’s been making you all go “this is SO annoying, unfollow!” But I can finally announce some very big news. I’m going to be freaking Leslie Knope!!
Ok, maybe not exactly. In fact, not really even close. But I have accepted a new job! Working for the city I grew up in! And parks and rec does fall under one of the departments I’ll be supporting, so it kind of feels like I’m going to be Leslie Knope.
I will be moving into an administrative assistant role supporting engineering and public works for a suburb of Minneapolis, and as I said before, it’s a community that I’m familiar with and means a lot to me, because it is the city I grew up in and my parents still live there to this day. It is a HUGE change moving away from supporting a healthcare facilities team, but it’s the kind of change I have been wanting to make for quite some time. The details really aren’t important, it’s just the right move for me to make at this time in my life. The best things – the office will be literally (how many Parks and Rec jokes can I make here, I’m hearing that in Chris Traegar’s voice) next to my current office – this means I’ll still be in close proximity to home and to Oliver. I’ll be getting a few additional holidays off when the city office is closed and it should parallel days off Ollie will have when he goes to school, so I’ll get to enjoy some extra time with him. And it also will be a pay raise from what I’m currently making, so you can’t beat that.
This isn’t to say the transition will be easy or 100% awesome right away – it is also a new position to the city, so I think I’ll be definitely having to kind of pave my own way quite a bit. And change is always hard, I have been with my current organization for over nine years and in my current position for seven years, so it will definitely be an adjustment. I don’t know yet how this will affect the blog, but my goal is to keep up my four day a week posting schedule, if it gets too difficult, we’ll scale that back to three days.
I’ve had a lot of support and love and good vibes from those closest to me as I navigated these waters this summer and I appreciate it more than I can say. My last day at my old job is September 25 and I’ll start September 28 at the new job. I have wanted to say more for so long, but being that this was a city government position, I had to wait until all the background paperwork was completed and that takes some time! So again, apologies for all the vagueness and what not and if you’re still reading, I appreciate it! Onward and upward!
Exciting and congrats! Best of luck on the new adventure.

How exciting!!! This sounds like a great fit for you.
My most recent two jobs have both been brand new positions to the organizations they were in. It can be challenging but it's also fun sometimes to come up with brand new initiatives and see them to fruition.
Congrats Beth! I'm so excited for you! Change can be scary but good!

Thank you so much! We'll have to compare notes sometime 🙂
Congrats, Beth! I'm sure that as soon as you settle in, you'll feel it was the right move to make.
I think you are absolutely right 🙂

Congrats!! Public sector is a great place to be! I used to work for the same city at the Recreational Gardener but in Human Resources. Now I work for a county just outside the metro. 🙂
